a weekend of lighting at @608worship
I was humbled when my long time friend, turned real-deal big time worship leader Matt Edin asked me to sit as LD (lighting director for all you non-production types) at Southland’s 608 worship service and let the southland production guys take a test drive of the ETC ION desk.
Southland has a super nice room, some top notch production guys and a killer Sunday evening program geared towards the college/post-college crowd. After long weekends in the trenches of local church production, @misscooper and I love to attend 608 as regular worshipers to get a spiritual refueling. So, it was a really cool to have an opportunity to give back to a community which has given me some much needed battery recharging.
It just so happened that Southland took delivery of some new Bargeheights 1200 watt moving head lights last week for use in their new IT set design. Nothing like patching in new lights, making new profiles and cueing a new service in a new room…oh yeah, turn between weekend services and the start of 608 is about 5 hours, including a dress rehearsal. Oh yeah, Lee Strobel spoke……not bad.
In short, it was awesome—-great room, packed house, Lee Strobel, smokin light rig, great team of people. Best of all, I had an opportunity to work alongside a guy who I did ministry with every weekend in high school, while we both tried to figure out what God was calling us to do. What distance we have come since the days of banged up par cans, goodwill table lamps and cheap power strips.
Fast forward ten years and it looks something like this—-
