What’s in a Name

Posted on September 20, 2008 by matt

BargeHeights? What’s that mean? GOOD QUESTION! In short, it’s my place in this world, mi casa, the place where God wired me to thrive. This place has all kinds of nicknames, each venue is a little different. “The Booth”, “Mission Control”, “The Box”, “FOH”, “Out front”, “The Barge”. Barge and Heights are a play on two of my favorite venues–two places which God has allowed me to be a tiny part of something incredible powerful and larger than myself. My hope is that many of you might also find the bargeheights your “home” too.

“The Barge” is our affectionate name for Xroad’s Andover Front of House (FOH) location, full of lighting consoles, audio desks, producer stations, intercoms, and tools galore. The Barge is pushed in to place each weekend during stage setup, and the returned to it’s “dock” at the rear of the auditorium. “Heights” is a throw back to the past–XRoads’ former main auditorium at Andover housed FOH in a concrete loft “The Booth”, accessible by a knee-punishing solid steel ladder (submarine-style).

So BargeHeights is the old and new names for the place where I feel home, the little place in this vast world God has called me to serve. Keep reading, you might find this is a place for you too!
